It's on the west bank of the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Geismar and the rest of Ascension Parish lie on the opposite side of the river. To the north lies White Castle and Plaquamine. Downriver is Vacherie, to the south is Napoleonville, Pierre Part, and Thibodaux.

Donaldsonville has a lot of interesting history, but it is not better than every city in Mississippi - not even close.
