Father in law enjoys this time period. Any great books, even posters, odds and ends memorabilia?

Is he more of a student of the Civil War or is he more of a collector of items from this time?

A cavalry sword would be nice.

Maybe a replica musket to hang over a fireplace?

ask your mother in law. that's a slam dunk gift imo. if he's into the time period, he will love it.

I got one of these for Christmas years ago. I still love it and have it on display in my man cave.

Some books which I found good. I got the Gettysburg book before our first trip there, but it had some good stuff in it for the buff. I found the Scyth of Fire to be an excellent read.

Memorabilia:
I am into metal detecting and have found bullets, buckles, buttons, etc., on my family's land. Those can be a good bet if you can find a reputable dealer. I may have a few I am willing to part with.

Those are awesome. Dad found part of one including the hilt, but the blade was broken about half way. Still awesome.

Is he from Louisiana, or interested in Louisiana? The late John D Winters, history prof at La Tech, wrote the definitive book on the CW in this state. Old, but still relevant.

Of more recent vintage, anything by ULM professor Terry Jones is great. LINK

Depending on which side he prefers, you could buy him a person.
