Was in downtown today and saw a homeless guy digging through a garbage can for food. Was pretty sad. I know, give the guy money and it goes for booze and cigs. I've seen that happen too many times when others give money. Building had a subway so I went and got a gift card and gave it to him. Was very nice in accepting. I usually ignore them but he caught me on a good day.
Now is there a way he can screw that up or do others do that?

Why didn't you give him a 6 pack and the number for a good hooker? That's what he really wants.

You had to make sure everyone on the OT knew you did that right?

That was nice. I normally give them the ketchup packages I get at McDonalds. You know in case they get that food they are asking for then they already have the ketchup.

nice thing to do, haze...
if someone strikes me as really needy, I will sometimes just grab an extra sammich and give them one...usually, my instincts are correct and they start eating immediately and just gulping the shite down...

I thought about that and that is why I posted.

When I was in college, some friends and I were eating lunch and as I went out to my truck, homeless guy walks up and I gave him $4. No big deal. Well, as I sat in my truck and waited for my next class, I see the bastard walk out the circle K across the street with 2 tall boys.

Tv station here did a story when I was in school. Intersection of Terry road and highway 80. They watched three guys take turns begging. One would beg, two would hide behind a wooden fence. They worked shifts. Then they would go buy cigs and quarts and sit behind the fence while one begged. Was pretty funny actually.

Nice job. A (supposedly) homeless guy on Canal Street wanted me to give him money one time because he was "hungry". I offered to go into the McDonald's or Popeye's with him and buy him food but he didn't want that. He got frustrated and asked "why don't you just give me the money?". He ended up getting nothing.

Same thing happened to me this past weekend. Guy said he needed cash to get food/gas. I said I had no cash but would buy him food at the Burger King connected to the gas station. He said no thanks and walked off.

I'm the executive director of a Homeless mission.
Some of the stuff that's said about the homeless population on here is disgusting.
I get opportunities to experience relationships with fathers, sons, etc. These are people.
My residents come to my house weekly for prayer, fellowship, etc.
My guys spoil my kids (1 and 4 years old) like he is their own child.
Yes, many of them have made poor life choices. Yes, some of the stereotypes are true.
But, loving on those that have been beaten down and left out is game-changing. I get to see that transformation. I get to see the hope. It's special.

Mitch: I tell you what. I’ll give you a dollar each if you go into this building here and run around yelling and sceaming. Homeless guy (Fred Wolf); Ah y’know, that’s very nice, but I think what you probably need are like some psycho, out-of-control homeless guys. Other homeless guy (Jim Downey): Yeah, we’re more the broken, spiritless, “I’ve lost the will to live” type homeless guys. Mitch: How ’bout for two dollars? [Cut to the homeless guys running amok in the building.]
