so this is that BR is afraid to lose

This whole lawsuit is because the leadership ( ) of Baton Rouge doesn't want to lose it's cash cow. The BR attorney said that St. George doesn't have money set aside for a police department. What's going to change when they incorporate? The sheriff still has jurisdiction there. They are simply incorporating a portion of the parish, they aren't creating 100k people out of nowhere and adding them to the parish, those people are already there and under the jurisdiction of the sheriff's office. Why wouldn't the sheriff's department do the exact same thing as they are doing now?

And that is the deal… they don’t want to have to cut all the bullshite in BR they used buy votes in order to pay full freight on police and fire for the city.

Eh… they would have to make massive changes to the budget in some fashion if they lost that money, so it is technically true.

Them being able to do it and them being willing to do it are separate matters.

You sort of do. This would not be good for the city of Baton Rouge, but that is their own fault. And I do no blame St. George for being pissed off and wanting out.

And BRPD and BRFD get 50% of the parish general fund by law before anyone else gets a taste.

So My mama living in actual Village St George neighborhood pays for BRPD, BRFD, EBRSO and SGFD while her address is only served by EBRSO and SGFD. I never knew that.

Yikes

this is probably the biggest problem - as a former city/parish employee - the way the police pay is done is ridiculous

I wish my overtime pay would’ve counted towards my retirement, oh wait I wasn’t allowed overtime pay

And this should always be reiterated… one of the elected officials who told the St George school district petitioners they should form a city to secure their funding was none other than SWB, who sued them for doing just that.

That is one of those sound bytes that is going to dog her for years.

Paying more but actually receiving services commiserate with your taxes beats paying less and getting squat.

What they need to do is start by dismantling the consolidated city-parish government. It’s something that both the NAACP and St. George agree on.

iirc one of the talking points is that taxes will not increase

And im not sure if you live anywhere in the parish do you get what you pay for

Except maybe central but taxes went up there, too

It’s not your fricking choice. The way the law works, you have no say in the matter. St George is underrepresented and under funded by BR, yet they rape us for our tax dollars to subsidize your shite
