In-laws decided they wanted all the family to do a family vacation (FML) and rented a house in Ft. Morgan. I said go towards Navarre Beach but they went the cheap route.

I never hit up the Bama beaches, so how miserable am I going to be, beyond the general type when you are around in-laws for a week?

Is the beach even decent down that way?

Ft Morgan is a beautiful area, nice beaches. It's just very isolated. Probably a 20 or 30 minute ride back to Gulf Shores. Also not crowded, very private.

If y'all got a house then at least you'll have the beach to yourself. Sounds like a lot of family time though, hopefully u have a cool family. But the beach ain't bad, not great, but not bad.

It's in Bama, so leave your shirts and shoes at home and bring your guns. Also, I'm sorry to tell you but you'll be required to beat your wife. I know you may not want to, but it's the law.

Any difference in the water, compared to Dauphin island.

Dauphin island, the water was visible to the bottom, with a greenish/brown tint.

So If i'm looking for more relaxing vacation, Ft morgan over gulf shores?

Ft Morgan is perfect for a quiet, relaxing, family filled vacation (especially if you like to grill or cook on vacation). It's a little ride back into GS or OB for most restaurants.

Love Fort Morgan. We used to go every summer before the kids moved away.

Pick up your golf game. Kiva Dunes will make you forget your in-laws for a good chunk of the day.

Stay out there in July every year. It's beautiful, beach is the same as it is in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. Way less crowded, too. Everyone isn't in top of each other. There are some several million dollar houses out there.

You just have to get used to the 20 or so minute drive to and from Gulf Shores, but it isn't bad.

Depends on which side of the spit you're on.

You will see oil and natural gas rigs, particularly at night when they are lit up, but they aren't actually close to shore.

We really enjoyed fort Morgan when we went with the family a few years ago

Some really great houses to rent out there at much better prices than farther east

Mitch da Bitch said Ft Morgan is racist and holding back progress so it should be torn down in the middle of the night

Nice beach and secluded. A visit to the fort is obligatory. When you sign the credit card receipt at the gift shop, be sure to use the pen with the right flag.

If you're willing to be off beach, the bay side about 13 miles down is wooded with lovely family homes for rent. Just cross Hwy 182 in the Bon Secours wildlife refuge, theres a great beach.
