Pretty inhumane way to do that.

Yeah, he's such a boss that he can't even hit an unsuspecting deaf animal from point blank range.

Most of the first page talks about the throwing over the fence being the worst part. Are we reading different threads?

How the frick do you think it is more humane to shoot a dog than putting it down at the vet?

How is it more humane to bring it to a vet? End result is the same.

Bringing it to the vet is for the owner not the dog. It allows you to distance yourself from the act - you're not the one who technically killed the dog, although you did sign the check.

This still happens with a clean shot, it's just the nerves

Growing up in the country, you put your own animals down if it was time. I have no problem stepping up and doing what needs to be done.

It's not fun or sport though. It's a serious responsibility. Maybe the guy missed the first time because he was upset?

But you should respect your pet enough to bury him properly.

That said, I'll be out voted by my city slicker family and if I'm not going to be taking care of it, they will probably be making that trip to the vet with out me as I dig the grave.

Or it's to make sure it's done properly in a way that couldn't possibly kill your neighbor when your dumbass misses a point blank shot.

Shooting a dog in the head has been the proper form of euthanasia for centuries. Now suddenly in the last 15 years you become scum of the earth if that is how you put a dog down. Hasn't anyone seen Ole Yeller? Shooting his dog was part of his evolution into manhood and learning to face tough choices.

This:

Is not this:
quote:

How is it more humane to bring it to a vet? End result is the same.

The person I responded to actually said it is MORE humane to shoot it than taking it to the vet. I would like to know how shooting it is MORE humane than bringing it to the vet.

ETA: And this dumbass missed from point blank range. What if he had just hit the dog in the spinal cord or somewhere else where it would not instantly kill the dog. Do you think putting it down at the vet would cause it more pain than that?

It's painless for the animal at the vet.

I'm keeping up just fine. You can just admit that most people aren't the pansies that you're insinuating they are, but I'm guessing you won't.

I tear up when I'm at the vet with my dogs when I see someone coming out with their dog that has just been put to sleep (and it has happened on my last two visits).

Last time I took our golden in, they were bringing out the collar of a dog that had just been put to sleep, and the lady lost it. So did I, after seeing her.

Exactly spot on. Has nothing to do with being "humane." Its to make the owner feel less guilty.

Did you miss the part about missing the first shot, in city limits, then just throwing it's body over a fence?

You country folk sure are quick on the draw.

Lots of dogs are severely injured everyday and go on to live long, happy lives. They are hit by cars, blinded, legs amputated, and even get sick. Why not take it to a vet like a responsible pet owner to determine it quality of life instead of killing it?

No. Piece of shite is disarming a firearm in a neighborhood where there could be kids.
