Was offered a job with a nice salary and great benefits, but for the first 2 years, I'd have to live in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Was hoping for a Dallas or Chicago offer, but that's currently what's on the table. I've been bouncing all over the nation for the past 2 years, plus the 2 years before that internationally. I think I'd like the job itself, but I really don't know much about Indiana.

So OTers familiar with the place, what's it like since I'm not finding too much after an hour of research. Thanks for the tips in advance.

It sucks. Parts of Indiana aren't too horrible. But NE Indiana is not one of those places.

Just about like most cities that size. It's not terrible for what it is, but it's sure as hell not Chicago.

The best thing about Ft. Wayne is that they used to have a little old lady handing out homemade cookies to every passenger who got off a plane.

Don't know much about FW specifically, but very generally speaking, the bigger cities in Indiana have the normal, reasonable people. The John Birch, black helicopter, whackaloons are generally rural, and skew the averages for Indiana pretty badly.

Of course if you are a John Birch, black helicopter whack-a-loon, you should probably ignore me.

There's a pretty good ski club in Fort Wayne; I've had great times skiing with them.

I'm interviewing with a few other places with even better pay, so no. I'm not liking what I'm seeing of it.

Well, I'm not a family man. Is it nice for a guy in his mid-20s who likes to go out and have fun? Plus, what kind of environment are we talking about in the lady department?

Well, lucky I'm not planning on living in Mississippi, so this is a moot point.

My best friend and his brother were sent up there for work for like a year or so. They both said it sucked.
