He had a nice little scheme going. Wasn't going to be too hard to figure out what was going on. IWNHI, b/c I don't screw around with males.

So unless the tip was more than $25 she lost money? Or am I missing something?

Read much?

The card company kicked the cost back to walk ons after they would realize the $25 max was exceeded

Do you read? She bought the $25 cards herself. So she was in the hole $25. She then had to "tip" more than $25 to make money.

Get it?

Yeah but she still have the card that's worth $25 if the charges were denied? So she gets the tip plus still has a card that's worth $25.

The charges aren't denied, the initial charge is $25. Then the tip is added later. Check your card statement online when you eat at a restaurant.

She probably used the cards to pay for meals from cash paying customers, so she keeps the $25 cash to replace cost of card and any tip she puts on card is profit.

I'm reading it like they charged the transactions back to walk ons, meaning once the tip was added the entire transaction on the card was cancelled and Walk Ons didn't get paid at all.

When I eat a restaurant my card is charged one time for the entire amout including the tip.

Now it does say how much I tip, but it's just one transaction.

I understand the card company kicks it back after the overage tries to run.. However if its a $25 card that she bought, the tip would need to be $25 also just to break even (IF SHE BOUGHT THE CARD ORIGINALLY)

Mine doesn't, it's two separate charges when I look at it.

Intially there is a 'pending' charge for the amount of the bill, the once they run the final total including tip, the pending charge falls off. Look at your card account immediately while its happening and you would see it.

I only use AMEX when eating out and they list it on my statement as one charge but it shows what was tipped and what just the meal cost. Guess they all do it different.

Of course. What is so hard to figure out about this?

You're exactly right, but when I get my statement it still just shows as one charge, one transaction not 2 separate charges.
