I really love the idea of an EV truck. I drive 60 miles round trip all highway for work, but need the ability to throw shite in the bed of a truck. Having AWD or Four wheel drive is a huge plus as well.

There just isn’t a reliable version of that truck yet. Once there is I’ll own one. OT can mock me all they want.

A more reliable, and potentially smaller truck, could be nice for your average suburban truck owner, someone who hauls pine straw once a year and seldom tows anything, but want's a truck and uses it to commute.

Why would anyone want to potentially have to deal with that crap?

Yeah, IDK why anyone would live in Chicago.

The Bronco Sport has the 3-cylinder.
All full size Broncos have at least the 4....

Do they not?

I don’t think so - I think they use the 3 as the base and a 6 for the upgrade.

Why can’t they make a hybrid truck

Dodge is coming out with one and the tundra is available.

But to answer the indirect underlying question, hybrid trucks have some unique packaging problems. They just take time to develop. I’d expect to see more coming to market in future years and eventually up to CMV.

Ah, ok. It just seems the hybrid technology has been around 20 years in cars and would be the most efficient method. At least compared to the EV.

They have been, but frankly the storage tech was complete shite in most of them. PHEV is benefiting from the massive investment in BEV, which is mostly around the storage tech. Once we get to the point we have a bunch of companies making good storage and combining it with decades of ICE advancement, we’re going to get some really good cars in the near future.

The white elephant with anything with a battery is that at some point the electric drive battery will need replacing.

A hybrid doesn’t have as nearly the size battery that an EV has so it will costs less to replace but it will still be expensive. The big problem is manufacturing. Manufacturers only produce parts for a limited number of years before new technology or a new design that will make a late model part not in the supply chain rendering a some what new model car obsolete and ready for the junk yard.

Forget the whole ICE/EV debate for a moment.

Consider how so many major vehicle manufacturers completely misunderstood the car-buying public.

Nobody at the C-Suite level had the balls or intelligence to say, "Hold up, is the public that ready for this?".

The dealerships fricked it up by marking them up into the stratosphere. Tesla finta eat.

It’s been awhile since I reserved it but I can’t wait to get my Cybertruck in. Not gonna be my main driver but will be cool to putt around town in.

Best of both worlds

Also worst of both. Don't forget that part. It makes a lot of sense for trucks, but EVs for commuter cars is really the perfect application.

quote:

you dont get stuck waiting for days for it to charge when a deep freeze happens.

Define "deep freeze." There is literally no weather you're getting in Tuscaloosa that presents any issues.

quote:

There were reports of people in Chicago having the car running while charging and it the charger was only able to keep battery at current level (due to heater).

Because those idiots chose EVs without having chargers installed at home. If you aren't getting your own charger, don't buy an EV. Not smart to rely on other people's shite to ensure the operability of such a critical piece of equipment. There seems to be a dumb trend among EV drivers to "milk" their batteries as low as they can before charging (which is counterproductive). I have no doubt a bunch of these people waited around for days expecting to just drive up to a supercharger and top off, not understanding the demand that was about hit.
