Don't know how force vectors work do ya? Nor what the energy equation is.

You do realize that the car was being pulled by a high speed winch system, right?

Also with two cars, there are twice the crumple zones....which will help reduce acceleration forces albeit slightly at that speed.

Mythbusters did a bit on it.

OR two cars hitting each other head on going 60 MPH.

Scary.

Two cars going 60mph don't even deserve to be on the road because they aren't practicing fuel conservation by going at least 80mph each. People that waste gas by going those slower speeds really piss me off.

The worst vehicle I've ever owned was a Ford. They are absolute junk in every measurable way.

Someone hasn't been in one in a really long time.

Seems highly unlikely one would survive that crash. And that's why I'll never own a Ford Focus.
So I assume whatever vehicles you currently own, you'd like your chances of surviving a 120 MPH crash?. . .

Not fast enough. They weren't in the optimum "gas mileage zone" quite yet.

F = mV^2

That only works if you assume the car moves 1 foot (or meter for SI) after collision.

If you are working in distance units,

W=F*x=?KE=(1/2)m*v^2-(1/2)m*v0^2

Or if you want to read up on it LINK

My last Ford couldn't survive a year without seeing a mechanic...so in a 120 mph crash, I'll take my chances in either my Subaru or Acura (or my old full sized truck) over a Focus.

That being said, how fast was Princess Diana's Mercedes going when it was in the accident? I was told it may have been survivable if seatbelts had been used.
