Why don't you see more of these? Just due to the amount of airports available? I'm not talking about the little planes with pontoons on them, but the big Tailspin planes with what looks like a boat hull with wings. Those were so neat looking.

They're called Floating Planes, get it right.

I think the term would be sea plane. Once it flies, not really a boat anymore.
And were they ever really that prevalent? I mean, yeah it was in Tailspin, but there was also a bear driving a plane, so not everything from that was real.

Sea Planes have pontoons.
Flying boats land with their fuselage in the water.

What if a sea plane lands in a lake?
Lake Plane?
Lake Plane?

Pan Am used to fly the planes below. They were considered "Flying Boats" and usually had nautical names such as "Yankee Clipper".
I'm guessing because society at the time used ships for intercontinental travel, Pan Am elected to use nautical terms in the early days of air travel.
Perhaps flying boats were used instead of land based aircraft because the planes were large and there were no runways long enough for them to get up to speed to fly. lack of commercial airports in the early days too.

I like the Grumman Goose. One of the more popular restaurants in town is in the site of the old Ak. Coastal Air hanger, on the waterfront.

I'm humming the tailspin theme as we speak
