Florida’s governor took a case involving the killing of a police officer out of the hands of its prosecutor Thursday, hours after she announced that her office would no longer seek the death penalty.

Gov. Rick Scott signed the order to remove Markeith Loyd’s first-degree murder case from the office of State Attorney Aramis Ayala, which serves metropolitan Orlando in central Florida. Scott transferred the case to State Attorney Brad King in a neighboring district northwest of Orlando.

Loyd is charged with killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend and Orlando Police Lt. Debra Clayton.

Ayala said she made the decision after conducting a review and concluding that there is no evidence to show that imposing the death penalty improves public safety for citizens or law enforcement. She added that such cases are costly and drag on for years.

I am against the governor's order on the simple basis that it shouldn't be up to the governor to decide what cases get prosecuted and how it gets prosecuted. Setups up very bad precedent IMHO.

What say the OT?

The cùnt state attorney should have been fired if she wasn't willing to do what was asked of her.

And her reasoning was bullshite. Everyone knows why she's not going for the DP.

I remember that chase. We followed it here on tO-T. Nothing to see here. They want to execute him and it seems he deserves it.

I get your point, but she's the equivalent of the DA there. It's within her discretion to charge as she pleases. She only answers to the people as an elected official.

He murdered 2 women. One being pregnant and one being a cop.

In a perfect world they would have put a bullet through each of his eyes when they apprehended him instead of beating him until his eyes were swollen shut. frick him and his trial.

Yeah, you're right, my bad...he still needs to die if found guilty for the murder of three lives

he should say he was only aborting the baby

that would clear him of one murder count

I'd be all for this if we could efficiently carry out the death penalty but in reality it will be strung out over the next 25 years and cost millions.

The only idiots are the ones who don't think this pile of shite deserves to die for his crimes.

So like everybody who turns an eye to a murderer getting life instead of death? Idiots actually rely on emotional things, like the occupation of a victim.

He murdered his pregnant girlfriend. He then murdered a police officer who tried to apprehend him. He then carjacked someone and shot at multiple people. The dude is a pretty good candidate for execution.

You have a problem with the Governor doing what he did but no problem with what that prosecutor did?
