What is it with the entire state of Florida?

quote:

The Florida day care center where a 3-year-old child was found dead after being left in a van for more than 11 hours has been shut down.

After the death of Myles Hill on Monday, it was revealed that Little Miracles Academy in Orlando, Fla., had already been under scrutiny for not being in compliance with a rule that required day care centers to have time logs of when children arrive, where they are supposed to go, and what time they leave.

quote:

The iron fist came down a little bit too late for Myles, who was left in the day care van for more than 11 hours in the sweltering Florida heat.

The driver of the van admitted to not doing a head count when the children were taken off the van at around 9 a.m. Monday, is facing unknown charges in the incident and has since been fired.

I'm sure it was an accident, but as a person that is supposed to be responsible for the well-being of children, how in the world can you forget about ANY child while in your care?

A lot of day cares are absolutely horrible.

They need to do like ATT and set cones when they park or something. Force them to do a walk around and check the vehicle before leaving.

Just stop Will.

And my heart goes out to that poor child and his grieving parents.

Was a camp counselor during my summers in college and often drove a bus full of little kids. This was constantly on my mind. I would head count, call roll, and walk the length of the bus after every trip to make sure this never happened. Just complete negligence on their part.

Accidents happen, but if you have a good daycare, be very thankful.

It is absolutely terrible. The idiot bus driver was obviously distraught and upset but admitted she didn't do a headcount. I don't understand how anyone can leave kids in a car especially if it's your fricking job to transport them.

Putting my children in the hands of other people will probably be the most nerve-racking thing I do in life. Not looking forward to it

Being anal about some things is a great attribute

this is hard for me to fathom because the two daycare centers that my son has been in required a pin code to even get in the door as well as a computer systems to check my son in and out of day care. They also give us a daily log of how long he naps and how many times he went to the bathroom

ONE job!

Hell, I bet I check my pocket at least twice to make sure my keys are there before locking the car door.

Question though: Do people really leave their kids at day cares for over 11 hrs at a time? Probably didn't survive that long anyway, but it seems like she would have been noticed as missing by SOMEONE quicker than 11 hrs.

Mine is like that too, but when I was looking around some of the daycares were horrible. And they weren't even that much cheaper. 850 a month vs 500-600 a month made a huge difference in the quality of care.
