We used pry bars, crowbars and hammers at my buddys place recently....and it was still a bitch. took about 5 of us 6 hours to get the glued wood floor out of his place. Good luck.

I am so glad that every house I helped with had floating floors and we didn't have to fight with that nightmare. Good luck!

What type of wood? Some can handle water, and some can't. If they are glued down, I'm guessing they are new and are fricked. They need room to swell, and the glue won't allow them to do that. It's on concrete, right?

Contractor is charging my aunt almost $4k to remove 850sf of glued down wood. She's probably getting raped a little but it's not easy work. hopefully I'll move to a new house before I have to get new wood floors.

I'm in the EXACT same boat. Got an estimate for around the same. Almost $5 to pull up wood floors is INSANE.

I spent all afternoon yesterday clearing one room of wood flooring that was glued down. The areas that had more moisture were easier to pry up but it was all a bitch to remove. Since it was the last room to clear there were a few wet rugs in there that kept the floors damp and those areas came up a little easier. The impact chisel we rented didn't help at all, I just used a small sledge and a pry bar. It was a lot of effort but it worked.
Hope this helps and good luck!

my couple of friends who need to replace floors is all looking at ceramic that looks like wood. one friend is looking at pvc type material that looks like wood.

That's what we did, so now we are all stained concrete and ceramic tile. Flood proof as far as floors go.

What was the name of the company from the whacked thread that did work for $1.75 a square foot?

It turned out to be $1.75 and not $175?

My enginered floors are good, just one spot where the glue didn't take on original installation has popped up. I'm going to try to inject some glue into it and weight it down. I think a good price for pulling up any wood floor should be less than two dollars a square foot.

We took out a house full of glued down wood floors AND 4 feet of sheet rock and all of the kitchen cabinets and bathroom cabinets and living room bookshelves in 1 day at my daughters home. We had about 20 people. On the wood floors we uses chisels and hammers and then shovels to rip them up. Not easy and hard work. I could hardly walk the next day! But I have heard that some glue used is a lot harder than others.
