Not really. Early 80's are considered a cusp generation or Gen X
Dude, accept it, you are millenial
quote:
A minority of demographers and researchers start the generation in the mid-to-late 1970s, blah blah blah easy road blah blah blah Manpower Group uses 1982–1996.[38]
For every source you find that says "1980" forward I can find more nuanced opinions and studies. Truth is, that near the peripheries its very convoluted and individual circumstances and experiences play a much bigger role. My wife and I grew up in NOLA which is 20 years behind other major U.S. cities so we were delayed and werent thrust into the millennial lifestyle that may have been more prevalent in more affluent families, cultures and regions.
quote:
"The idea is there's this micro or in-between generation between the Gen X group – who we think of as the depressed flannelette-shirt-wearing, grunge-listening children – Dan Woodman, Associate Professor of Sociology at The University of Melbourne, told Australian lifestyle site Mamamia. Woodman went on to explain that while millennials have always grown up with technology, Xennials had to make an adjustment to embrace it. "It was a particularly unique experience. You have a childhood, youth and adolescence free of having to worry about social media posts and mobile phones... We learned to consume media and came of age before there was Facebook and Twitter and Snapchat and all these things where you still watch the evening news or read the newspaper," he noted.
quote:
Woodman went on to say that different experiences play a role in how a person identifies with their cohort. For example, a millennial who did not grow up with a lot of money would be less likely to get the same digital experience as a wealthy millennial or even Xennial who would have better access and understanding of technology.
quote:
They are considered less cynical and pessimistic than Gen X, variously defined as being born from the mid 1960s to early 1980s, but not as optimistic and even entitled as Gen Y, born from the early 1980s to late 1990s. The term is a solution to recent complaints by “old millennials” that they don’t feel as though they fit the avocado-eating, Snapchat-loving mould of the endlessly dissected generation — but also don’t really remember the first Star Wars movies. Every generational shift tends to create a “swing” section, or micro-demographic on the cusp, that doesn’t quite fit with the previous or next cohort. But experts believe the sense of isolation is particularly relevant for the X-Y in-betweeners.
quote:
Juliet Lapidos wrote a New York Times column entitled Wait, What, I’m a Millennial? “I don’t identify with the kids that Time magazine described as technology-addled narcissists, the Justin Bieber fans who ‘boomerang’ back home instead of growing up,” she said.
quote:
In April, New York Magazine discussed the phenomenon of “Old Millenials” born before 1988, who act as a different “self-contained generation” largely because of two epochal events — the smarphone takeover and the financial crisis. Many of this demographic were in the workforce, or just sneaking in, so the GFC didn’t effect their job hunt too much. On the other hand, they typically weren’t on the property ladder yet, like most Gen X-ers.

My younger brother was born in '86 and barely remembers some of this
Your brother has a shitty memory. I was born in 87 and I don't think we had a computer until the 94 or so. Had no internet or only dial-up until much later. I didn't have a cell phone until 8th grade. Didn't have social media until high school. Etc.

The oldest millennials are now in their mid 30's. If you are that old you can at least remember the pre-internet/facebook/smartphone days.
And to beat a dead horse, life was better back then in many ways.

so your memories from when you were 4-6yo made such an impact. Ill answer for you. No it didnt. you might "remember" not having a cell phone but you didnt live a mature life without a cell phone.
My parents didn't have cellphones until I was around middle school. I didn't get one until I started driving. I never said I was 24 without a cellphone. I said I vividly remember life without cell phones. Which is true.

they can't rely on being white to pull prime spouses anymore and they are lashing out.
quote:leveled? Name all the scholarships non whites can get then name the ones whites can get. Im just going to guess you are too ignorant to look it up ill tell you the playing field isnt level and is swayed to one side. And ill tell you it isnt swayed to the white side.
Social media, social networking, desegregation, feminism and equal rights have leveled the playing field.

get in the damn gym read a book, learn a craft, get a hobby. Do something. Do something that is going to improve your value instead of bitching about what you don't have.

You're a millennial, get over it. I was born in '84, and don't feel that I have much in common with the stereotypical millennial, but it is what it is.
