Fitbit charge (the new one)

Thinking about buying it. I have never owned a fitbit and it seems pretty cool. Any reviews on the charge hr or the charge 2? I'm in good shape, would be using it more so to track sleep, workouts, and calories burned.

These all seem like a waste to me unless you are a tech type person. I would think a smart phone could do most of what these things do.

I have the chargeHR and I like it. Even been thinking about upgrading to the charge 2.
The most used feature for me is the heart rate tracking. It does it continually throughout the day and no chest strap is needed. It also has an alarm feature that vibrates the watch.
Unlike the Apple Watch I usually wear it three or four days without charging it and even then it gets mostly charged in the time it takes to shower/shave in the morning.
You can use it to announce your phone calls (caller ID on the display) but to me that was more of a gimmick and I turned it off.
The stairs tracking is way off at times (a jog around the flat neighborhood will sometimes track as several floors).
The steps tracker is useful for providing that extra incentive to get off the couch and meet the daily goal. I find it to be fairly accurate.
The distance tracker I've measured against distances I've driven and against distances reported on trails and it is accurate to within about a quarter mile over a five mile hike/jog.
The calorie counter.... I'm less convinced is accurate. You use the phone app to enter all of your statistics and it determines your burn from your BMR and your HR throughout the day. So that's only as accurate as that method.
This is all on the charge HR... I've seen the website about the charge 2 and it looks to have more features, but I have yet to play with one. This is also the only such watch I've used other than standard analog watches only used to tell time. So maybe other brands are better but I'm happy with mine.

What kind of workouts do you do?
It's great for sleep tracking and HR. It follows your rem sleep and everything according to your HR, so that's really cool.
But, for tracking workouts, it only really helps if you do lots of cardio. It's a great motivator especially when you have people to compete with. What I did was add a bunch of random people around the world and talked and competed with them. It really makes you want to work harder all day and builds a great support community too. This is its biggest strength, I think.

Have a friend who preordered the Alta. She's had the entire unit (band and all) replaced twice and the actual computer part replaced three times due to bad batteries and other malfunctions. She got it in April.
Get one of the new Apple watches, pretty sure that's her plan too.
