My SO and I just bought a new home with a decent-sized yard... I don't even know where to begin to look into installing a new unground pool...

How much cheddar am I looking at dropping? Is there a better time than another to shop? Any companies that I should put on the short-list? Companies to avoid?

Anything you guys could share would be great.

TIA.

Wait until fall/winter. The 2018's will be coming out and you can swoop up a 2017 for cheap.

Don't do it. Since you are going to install a pool anyway, try to not think of all the time you spend maintaining the pool on the few days you actually use it.

Two of the happiest days of your life:
When you put in a pool!
When you fill that SOB in!

Get quotes and build in January from the real big pool builders that keep their employees year round. Come January they will give you the lowest price possible just to keep their guys busy. That what I did and saved 30% from the quote I got in early summer.

Just be aware that in most cases it doesn't add any value to the home.

I say it every time I see this thread. Don't do it, but if you do, then skip the useless 8-10 foot deep end and get a pool about 4-5 feet deep all the way across and make it more of an activity pool. Deep end is a pain in the arse to vacuum if you don't use a robot or Polaris and you'll get WAY more use out of your pool playing volleyball, basketball or countless other activities you can't do in 8 feet of water.

A hole in your yard that you pour money into.

What about a garden pool? I've always wanted something to jump in and relax. Never looked into it.

60k. Get all the water features and bubblers and everything you want the first time. Just take the hit once.

Get the Pebbletec or similar finish.

As a first time homebuyer, one of my pros is a house with a neighbor that just built a pool.

You on the north shore?

Does your wife need a poolboy?

S&P 500 return over the last 20 years is 359.656%. I'd much rather turn that 50k into 180k and join a pool with memberships like Lake Sherwood or anywhere that's not free so that it keeps out the rift raft

Let me know when it's done. I'll bring a six pack of Zima and my speedo.
