Do they change into these clothes after the call goes out that there's a shooting in progress or do they walk around all day wearing combat boots and military fatigues?

I guess that's better than them taking the time to change.

Seems odd that these cities have people whose full time job includes dressing for combat.

Pics? Context? Part-time or full-time responders?

If the first responders are part-timers living in Pecan Island during duck season, I would say they were already wearing the cammo.

It really bothers you what type of tactical clothing swat wears to go into a building after 3 active shooters with body armor?

We have a few in our dept that like to wear BDUs daily.

BDUs are battle dress uniforms or basically combat unis. They aren't always camo

I'm actually wondering if given the "active shooter" training they do in offices (if you can't escape hole up and be prepared to fight back) if first responder is going to take a pencil to the neck when trying to clear out an office.

I don't know but it's stupid. First of all, they're not military, so no need to wear military uniforms.
Second of all, they just make themselves more of a target and allow their movements to be seen more easily. Third of all, if they claim they want to be seen to draw fire from the innocents, just wear grey or black like regular LE and put the bright "police" thing on your chest and back.

I also get confused by their fascination with standing on the vehicle running boards as they drive around at 5mph. Just get in the damn vehicle. It's not going to help them react to contact. Standing outside like that means they're the first one going down, which means their gun is out of the fight and the rest of the vehicle probably has to evac them so their guns are out of the fight too. The vehicle gives you a degree of concealment and cover, use it.

Look at this mess in CA. The whole PD is at the shooting location, and they're all just standing around. It's past time to consolidate at the rally point, they need to be out searching. For shite's sake, don't they have radios? There's no reason for the entire PD to be congregated at that location right now.

Exactly. Maybe it was a local national guard nearby.

no, but it would bother me if they took the time to change their pants and shoes before responding to the call, and it seems weird that these units would always be dressed like that .

I wear the camo gear underneath a fancy suit and when we get a call I rip off the suit in the manner of Clark Kent

They said earlier that the SWAT team happened to be training near by and was able to respond already geared up direct from the training site.

Maybe they thought the shooting was in the bush and they needed the cover.

They are a tactical unit. They are regular officers who also perform these duties. They are summoned and they gear up and deploy as a unit. Equipment is very important.

Regular police uniforms are impractical in these situations.
