LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michelle Obama has welcomed thousands of athletes to the Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles.

The first lady opened the games Saturday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, telling 6,500 athletes from 165 countries that she and her husband love them and are proud of them.

Who feels the need to start a thread about Michelle Obama welcoming the Special Olympics? (besides LSU1NSEC of course)

Starting a thread about the Special Olympics, sure but come on.

Definitely

Proud that these kids/people get up and do this, but I've always wondered how bad it felt to tell a retarded person that they weren't good enough to win. Must suck

I've always had mixed feelings about S.O. but it's a good thing society takes time out to support people with disabilities in events like this

That almost looks like Katy Perry's SB halftime outfit. Did she bring Left Shark with her?

I think she's more into the physical fitness thing. IIRC, she had some initiative for little kids to get off of their fast asses and go play outside

True. Seems like she's into programs that encourage healthy diets and exercise.
