Looks great. If you get a chance get him some cross rifles and blue cord. Those are essential for a Infantryman.

Very nice! I know you're proud of him. Three tours over there is impressive. Not getting shot is a blessing!

3 Tours in Vietnam Infantry and doesn't own a Purple Heart.
That's a pretty crazy stat. Very impressive.

Nicely done.
Only suggestion would be to clip the excess chains on the dog tags to a smaller amount or pin them directly to the board.

may want to get that Engineer device away from that beautiful CIB!
He was profiled out of the infantry into the engineers due to hearing loss. He got a laugh out of your comment.
He was in a jeep that hit a mine and killed the three other people in the jeep and he was not injured. He has a ton of stories and I have heard a lot of them but I do not press too much because even now he will occasionally wake up fighting in his sleep if he see a movie or show that's about Vietnam.

Whoa. He had a solid career.

I'm sure he got his payback for his time in boot, some of the "rewards" he got when he was going through it
- Cutting the grass with nail clippers
- Dug a six by six hole, drill dropped a match in there and told him to bury it, when he was done the drill asked him which way the head of the match was pointing and my dad guess "north" the drill told him to dig it up and find out.
He got busted at morning muster one time because he got up hung over and wore his red cowboy boots instead of his combat boots.

The 27th Maine is not known for any feats in battle, as it participated in no full-scale action with the enemy, but is instead known for the controversial issuing of the Medal of Honor to all those still serving in the regiment at their time of mustering out.

Unfortunately, there were some cases where the medal was awarded to persons who did not necessarily deserve the medal. For instance, Medals of Honor were awarded to the entire 27th Maine Infantry Regiment just for re-enlisting (all 864 men). In addition, medals were awarded to the men who served as Lincoln’s funeral guard, as well as civilians. Eventually, this wrong was corrected when an Army review board, led by Nelson Miles, met in 1916 to review all Army Medal of Honor cases. The board ultimately rescinded the medals awarded to the 27th Maine and the Lincoln funeral guards, as well as Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, the only woman to receive it (her award was reinstated by Jimmy Carter).

Looks great!
I want to do one of these for my grandfather's medals, mostly for my grandmother and for my 2 year old son too when he's older. Unfortunately grandpa is deceased and grandma isn't equipped mentally to complete the project.
I have some of his medals and pins from Grandma but any advice you can offer on reconstructing his military records or insignias is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
