Does anyone out there know anyplace offering training specifically on attestations?

We've been doing internet searches and I've contacted the Institute of Internal Auditors, but no joy...

What do you need to know?

Attestation can be anything. It just means it's a statement or report that is accepted to be accurate without the need for an audit or supporting data.

My counterpart from Huntsville and I put together a GAGAS 101 (Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards) course last year that has gotten rave reviews...one of the big holes is that although we talk about attestation, folks expect us to explain it to them in infantry language...

Every edition of the Yellow Book gets more complex on the subject, but nobody so far has taken the time to offer training...

Any good auditor will tell you the toilet paper you used to wipe your arse with this morning is worth more than an attestation.

Yes and no.

Insurance companies going through rehabilitation and receivership are repeatedly kicked in the crotch by state contractual firms.

Attest just means "reported on" by an accepted expert.

Audits are a type of attestation, but there are other kinds as well.

I'm not really sure what you are asking? What is your background? I'm a little concerned that you are teaching others about auditing standards, and yet don't know how to give a basic definition for attestation.

Training in what regard? How to prepare for one? How to perform attestation engagements? Because if it’s the latter, a degree in accounting would help...I’m an auditor if you have follow up questions.

Compilation, Review, Audit. In order of increasing standards to complete one. There is also agreed upon procedures where the company might but require a full blown audit but need something like their inventory or receivables to be tested further than a review or compilation would require.

Why don’t stop being a bitch to him? He clearly knows what it is, has tried different ways to define it but is still hearing comments that they still aren’t clear on it. Which, if you’ve spent 2 minutes in the CPA world, you can understand.

He’s trying to dumb it down more than he already has and is looking for other ideas.

I'm a CPA and long time Army Internal Review person...I can talk SSAE-18 until I'm blue in the face and explain the difference between a review and examination, and explain that a Performance Audit is a subset, but people in my AO are getting wrapped around the axle about attestations...

Not sure how helpful this might be, but there’s a site called CPA Academy or something along those lines that have free, archived CPEs. If I’m being honest they may not have anything you’re looking for specifically, but it is a good resource to have still. If I can think of anything I’ll post later in this thread.
