Do y’all know what fema will reimburse you for? Seems ridiculous that they would reimburse people for generators and window units.

Generators if you have documented medical condition that requires device to be powered by electricity. Usually $179 for a chainsaw. Katrina they reimbursed if your place was uninhabitable, but that’s more than just no electricity.

With the way this Congress gives out money everyone will probably get another $10k if they make less than $150k per year like last year.

IIRC, if you have insurance they no longer reimburse you. So like most Gov programs only the unresponsible are rewarded.

They pay the people who don’t pay taxes. Don’t you know this by now?

My dad was Republican as they come and a senior citizen when Gustav hit. He bought a nice Honda for $1600 just in time and it was a possibly a life saver for his COPD and oxygen needs. He had no expectation of any handout. So when FEMA offered rebates shortly after Gustav, he absolutely filled it out and deposited the $800(about half the cost) check they sent him. He used that to put towards the smaller Honda(you see at tailgates) for the next hurricane. Not everyone misuses assistance.

These reimbursements should be carefully scrutinized for fraud but it should be a no brainer for families with special needs especially electrical devices. And they should also be for elderly who are exponentially more likely to suffer from heat stroke than a healthy 25 yr old.

I was reimbursed for a portion of both my generator (no medical need) and chainsaw after Laura. I also have home insurance. The partial reimbursements of those two items were the only thing I qualified for with FEMA though.
