Project management.

That's why I took the job I have. It was the most responsibility I could get right out of school, but I miss big industry.

Eta: I did shite work in plants all through college. I miss working with those kinda people. The office life is tough for somebody who grew up around a bunch of contract hands.

To answer the thread, the interview wasn't bad at all. First interview was pretty standard. Second one was presentations, dinner, and interview. Be social and be normal ask questions if you're interested. Research the different PSLs ahead of time and show up with questions because you have to pick your top 3 in the 2nd interview. Be intelligent, don't be a dumbass try hard who says "I don't wanna work in no damn office I wanna pull wrenches"

That's not what they're looking for.

yep, something like that. you could only make one trip down there (forgot to add that to my other post), so you'd flip switch A on, leave it on for a short while, then flip it off and flip switch B on..go downstairs, if the light is on, switch B controls it. If it's off, bring your hand to feel it: if it's warm, switch A controls it; otherwise, C.

What of the light is an LED or Fluorescent bulb? Shoulda thrown that one back at him!

List of things to not do in 2nd interview:

1) only ask "how much field work do I get to do in that PSL?"

2) wear a suit when it says casual on the invitation

3) dress like oil field trash

4) act like oil field trash

You'll see all of the above and they probably won't get offers.

Things to do:

1) take notes

2) ask technical questions

3) genuinely pay attention because you may be making a major life decision that day

4) sleep the night before

You'll only see 2 or 3 people do the above. They'll probably get offers.

Thinking of Pathfinder, Prod Enhancement, and possible fluids as my top three in that order.

I know one person working for Pathfinder in West Texas. Seems to like it.

I work for one of the big 4. My interview was a short one over the phone for an international posting. I have friends in high places and a lot of experience though.

FWIW, try to get in as a DD somewhere. Weatherford would be my first choice

We're looking but as far as I know, only for people with prior DD experience.

I did my phone interview with weather ford drunk in the walkons parking lot. Didn't get a call back from them. Definitely not one of my prouder moments.

The usual rule of thumb is you aren't considered a good DD until after 6 years of experience. It took me 5 years to move out the field in LWD, got stuck in Houston, hated it, went to work as a DD. Did 7 years in the US with a smaller company. Jumped ship to Weatherford as a DD V last year and got the bump to the office after 7 months.

I've interviewed with all the majors except XOM when I was in college and all the interviews were pretty straight forward. BP asked 1 or 2 real technical questions but most wanted to know about past work experience

How are you liking WI? I seem to here more good about them compared to big red and big blue.

I have applied for about 10 positions over there so if you got a connect hook a buddy up.

I like it. We've had a lot of people come over from big red and I know quite a lot of people from my days with BHI who have jumped over.

We have some pretty legit tools and are dipping into their markets. We're running penta-combo RSS where I work and are having a lot of success.

We just did the first 8 1/4 inch formation pressure tester job in the world for WFT. The client wants it on every well now.

I know the Ops manager for the GOM region. We worked together at BHI.

Not sure he would be much help. Too high up the food chain.

I got an offer from big red for slickline and turned it down.

Constantly debating with myself on whether or not that was the stupidest thing I've ever done.

trust me, it wasn't. Slickline blows balls.

would you have been working out of Houma or New Iberia?

All good, figured it was worth a shot.

So how long would you say is typical to make the jump to DD from MWD/LWD? I have been told if you get in good with the drillers and learn from them and make the right friend or two you can diff speed up the process.

3-5 years usually. If you have prior experience on a drilling rig it can be faster.

Anytime. Good luck. FTR most days I wish I was back on the rig doing DD work. Especially on really challenging wells. It's a great feeling when you pull off a big job.
