Pretty amazing.

quote:

She roamed the streets of Bulgaria, her body emaciated. All her fur had fallen off to reveal cracked, dead skin.

A desperate plea made on Facebook to the Rudozem Street Dog Rescue (RSDR) was what ultimately saved her life.

When she was called out to, she came right over, "cowering as she approached us, but desperate for contact," Rowles wrote. She suffered from a slew of health issues.

quote:

This is what Khaleesi looks like today. She is about 4 years old, happy, healthy and active — and she's up for adoption.

Article has numerous photos of her journey back to health.

I rescued a dog not quite as bad as that one, but probably weighed 30 lbs, but should have weighed 60.
Now he's a healthy 60 pounder.

People that mistreat animals and those that turn a blind's eye to their neglect and mistreatment deserve a special place in hell. Last year I rescued 2 dogs that were in pitiful shape. They looked like bait dogs that had served their purpose and were dumped. One had been shot in the eye. I figure the fricking douche **** sorry-arse ball-less dog fighters had left them for dead. The kicker to this story is that I rescued them from a CHURCH. A fricking baptist church. Some moron minister told me to my face that it was a shame I was wasting my pity on dogs. I called him a mother fricking fat arse hypocrite and told him to rot in hell. From what people had told me those dogs had been around that church for 3 weeks and those pious shites never lifted a finger to help them. One pup was burned, the vet said probably by scalding water. Fricking people.
I am happy to say that both dogs now have great homes. One of which is curled up next to me as I type this.

One time I saw an emaciated puppy in the street. I put a bowl of food in the front yard and closed the gate when it came in to eat. The neighbor's GF took it to the vet on and they found a home for it.

I wonder how that dog is doing. She would be about 13 by now.

Good for you! It's people like you and the above poster who can make a big difference in the number of stray/neglected/abused animals out there. Just getting one female off the streets can keep her from producing as many as 30 pups.
I had a rescue a few years back where the vet estimated that the dog had had at least 5 litters of pups.

In addition to the emaciated dog we rescued, which I don't know his story, we've fostered about 50 dogs and puppies over the last few years.
There is too much neglect for dogs, and like that minister, so many just treat a dog as "property". It doesn't help that the bible has a verse that states man shall have dominion over animals.

Just....WOW...My heart went from broken to happy as I scrolled down. I love a good rescue story, even though I hate hearing the "before" part of course.

And it also says something about being a good steward of that dominion...
Bless you for rescuing and fostering!!!!!

As we speak I've got a mama dog and her 7 pups to find homes for. She appears to be a full-blooded black mouth cur who is smart as hell. I think I have a home for her when the pups are weaned. It looks like she hooked up w 4 different "gentlemen callers". One of the pups looks like a frickin bear cub and another is so fat and white he can hardly walk. I will probably get stuck with those two!!

Our foster pups typically go up North to animal rescue groups. Fir some reason, northerners care more for pets and typically don't have as bad of a problem with "unwanted" pets.
When they are transported up north, to places like Wisconsin, Maryland, Connecticut, etc., volunteers will drive the puppies for a segment, like 60-100 miles, then passed on to another volunteer. One special story is that we had some beagle mixes that were transported by someone who flew them in his Cesna for part of the way.

I would love to foster dogs.

I just know I would become a dog hoarder.

I too have a contact that will transport "up north". They simply don't have as many strays in Northern Urban areas as we have down here.
I spent many years in New England and have made some friends up there that help my southern folks relocate dogs.
Bless you for your efforts!!!

I am not an "official" dog rescuer, but I live on a farm and have the luxury of fostering several pups at a time and I will buy, steal or pick them up whenever it's needed...

No, you won't become a horder. If you can take even one foster, it will make a world of difference, I promise!!
