I'm trying to get a package delivered to me in Baton Rouge. Package leaves California, goes to New Mexico, then to Gibsland, LA which I assume it will stop and route to me. Nope. Goes to Orlando FL, then to Alabama, then to Memphis TN. What is this line of logistical reasoning because I'm baffled. What should have been a 5 or 6 day delivery by USPS ends up being a 16 day journey seeing all the sights of the United States.

The same reason Delta makes you fly from Baton Rouge to Atlanta just to go to Seattle.

Sounds like you should have paid for shipping.

I don't get it either. Kind of like why flights with 3 connections are cheaper than direct.

It's better traveled than 4/5 of the rednecks around the OT.

The last mile USPS shite is awful

USPS the entire way is typically cheaper and faster

Honestly, as much of a pain as USPS can be, I'd prefer Priority Mail over FedEx or UPS standard ground shipping about 90% of the time.

Not exactly.

SmartPost has some algorithm they created that determines which truck your package will be loaded on based on space. They do everything in their power to avoid sending a truck with less than a full cargo load.

Insanity for the OP when trying to track a package.

In broke's defense, I've paid for one day shipping from FedEx and it still came 4 days later.

That makes sense (business-wise). I knew someone could give OP an actual answer. I have been in his spot a few times and it's a pain in the arse. That's always the first thing I look at - who's shipping it? Some suck less than others

My package went from getting here on April 22nd, to April 29th, to May 1. At this rate I'll get it by the end of May. This seems crazy. I could ride it via horseback from California to Baton Rouge in less than 16 days

I've never seen one as crazy as yours. Which makes me think it was mis-routed to Gibsland since I don't think there's a sorting/transit facility there. Likely got to that local USPS site and then, unfortunately, started the process all over again.

Must have gone with the free "value" shipping option. I am convinced that all that does is cause your shite to be sent all over the country before reaching you.

I don't know who manages the logistics at USPS or what kind of system they have, but it sucks.

While I never had one come to Louisiana then go all the way to Orlando, they have gone to Port Allen, then somewhere in Mississippi then two days later it finally arrived.

There have been times when it shows that it is in Port Allen and then two days later it doesn't arrive, it still shows that its still in Port Allen then after another 2 or 3 days it finally gets delivered.

Gibsland has a population of less than 1000. The closest thing to a Fed Ex facility is a drop box 7 miles away in Arcadia.

I have no idea where Gibsland even is. But it decided to take a stop there. It has to be closer to Baton Rouge than Orlando

You are absolutely correct! I have over $1000 worth of goods that were allegedly delivered to the BR post office and then disappeared.
