Today is the first day of the February Bar Exam. Some poor souls are in the middle of Code III right now. I can't wait for some reaction posts

I'm surprised there isn't a thread yet.

I can't imagine that it is that hard to pass the bar exam if you have graduated from a decent law school.

I wouldn't say that. It isn't hard in the sense that you'll probably pass with proper preparation, but the preparation still sucks. So does the actual exam.

I'm supposed to be taking the Texas bar tomorrow but I cancelled (already admitted elsewhere). It was quite a relief to postpone that agony.

FIFY. I've always thought of the bar exam as a hazing ritual. The only people I know that have failed it are the ones who really did not put forth much effort in preparing for it. It's not "hard" in the sense of "this is really difficult material." It's just a process.

It's pretty difficult material. The average person doesn't get into law school. Less people get into good law schools. Still less people do well in law school.

Those things are not prerequisites for passing the bar, but that is the class of people who simply need to put in the effort and coast on their natural ability. If you go to a bad law school your chances go way down. If you did poorly in law school your chances go down. It is a substantive test.

That is not some ode to lawyers, but the bar exam is pretty widely recognized for being a grueling and taxing intellectual experience. Now that I've taken one and prepped for another, I don't find it especially hard. But if you don't have the aptitude for law, which is the majority of people I'd guess, it's a pretty tough test.

the Louisiana bar exam is more of a grind than an academic experience.

Being in LC have you been tempted to take TX? Or apply to be admitted through reciprocity?

5 years man....5 years

TX is a bit different than LA though. I'd like to piggy back on some litigation (I haven't in years) to vet out the differences

I found this to be the case, just a lot of self applied pressure and long test hours.

The individual tests weren't all that difficult...outside of LA Civ Pro...(a couple of years ago, it was a beast).

Can y'all give me a quick explanation on this? I know LA's Civ Pro is different, but what makes it so hard? Although I grew up in LA, I did not attend law school in LA. I'm admitted to NY, NJ and DC's bars, so no substantive knowledge of its Civ Pro.

No matter the issue, just throw a TRO at it and see what happens.
