According toe KXAS, veteran Ernest Walker, 47, of Cedar Hill, said he received a meal as part of a "free meal to veterans" promotion on Veterans Day.

Walker finished his food and was getting ready to leave the restaurant with his service dog named "Barack." He said an elderly man wearing an American flag shirt and Donald Trump sticker told the manager on duty that Walker was not a veteran and that he shouldn't receive the free meal because Walker was wearing his hat indoors. The incident was captured on video and shared on Walker's Facebook.

The manager asked for Walker's military ID, which he gave him, including his discharge paperwork. The manager then took Walker's to-go meal. "I looked around and I'm embarrassed at this point," Walker told KXAS. "People are looking. I'm a soldier. I'm a person and everybody's looking like I stole food."

Something smells fishy about this whole story

There wasn't any kind of win for him there by taking the food. I'm pretty liberal with it at work. The only time I've denied someone was when they didn't even have anything with an American flag on. Nothing stating they were a veteran , or any kind of id.

Why was he wearing an Army uniform, even without the tapes and insignia?

I dunno. Could be homeless or have mental illness.

I work with several retired/separated vets, and none of them wear their military gear. However, they're all signals guys or comms guys...their experiences could be different.

These stolen Valor idiots that have the same knowledge about the uniform as any ROTC cadet are just making fools of themselves.

So if he was able to provide them with what they requested then why did they take his to go food?

Yeah, it's odd. He was just a 4-year enlistee...wearing an unmarked uniform in a restaurant? That's odd and pointless. Just have your ID and your DD214 if you want free food.

He might have brought it just for that day. A lot of these offers ask for military id

I'm assuming he brought his DD214 to show proof for his free meal. If he only served 4 years, he doesn't have a retiree DoD ID card like I do...unless he was medically retired or something.

Otherwise, yeah, no one carries their DD214 around.

Either way, like Jones said.. All of this over a free lunch at Chili's?

Let's say it was a $16.99 meal. That means Chili's has all of $4 in the actual meal itself.

Was this really necessary?

that is what I'm wondering...did he have to pay for his meal or not?

or did they just take his leftovers?
