I am in a place where it is directly related to lack of mask wearing and social distancing. Nobody gave a frick, like many other places, and here we are. Since you used all caps and it's "common sense" I'm sure you feel you got your poorly constructed argument across

Okay, now show all the countries doing far better than us. There's plenty to choose from so it shouldn't be as hard as constructing that graph. We aren't doing the worst so we do have that going for us at least

The "scientific evidence" has been mixed at best.
If masks were as effective as you claim, businesses wouldn't have been shut down for most of the year, and cases wouldn't be going up.

No, but I do support social distancing and mask wearing. I can only speak for myself and those around me, but we let our guard down and now have the Rona within us. If it wasn't a group of young and healthy climbers the situation could be worse, and our selfish actions could directly affect the local community of less healthy individuals

Masks have some impact, but it can't be significant because many areas with widespread mask compliance are seeing spikes right now higher than what they had in Feb and March (all of Europe, the coastal urban centers in this country, etc).
I'm actually curious if the biggest benefit from mask usage is decreased viral load, maybe contributing to the much lower hospitalization and death rates we see now.
You would think as a society we would adjust our strategy given the much lower health care system usage COVID causes now, whatever the cause, but nope. The entire thing is just a risk tolerance balancing act between COVID healthcare impacts and the cost of government restrictions, and one side of that equation has clearly changed but we haven't rebalanced. We're stuck in this weird hysteria feedback loop that seems to be detached from the reality of what the COVID risk levels actually are.

Why are cases rising in places that do give a frick? Is it because its getting colder and people are inside more? If that’s the case then the virus is going to do what viruses do and short of a strict lockdown not much will stop it.

The fact remains that it is empirically deadlier than the flu. Not enough to warrant shutting things down from a pragmatic aspect, but enough to evoke the emotional pearl clutchers.

What percentage of the population is wearing them? Look at football games across the country yesterday. Not many. Saw some footage of Bourbon Street last night which was packed and maybe 10% was wearing a mask

This is ridiculous. What the hell is the point of the vaccine if we don't know how effective it will be and still have to do social distancing and wear masks?
Either release a vaccine that is effective, or don't release it.
They don't want the influenza comparisons, but they are making it pretty easy to make them with idiotic takes like this.

I never said that. I do believe that political pressure from the left has greatly affected how it’s been handled, though.
