There should be greater consequences. Some adults need to face consequences for not telling that boy's mother what really happened immediately after they knew about it. That system will obviously have no choice but settle out of court. But that's just punishing the tax payers.

Maybe you could think that would be the case if that was the extent of it. But also consider that a jury. looking at a mom who's 8 year old hung himself after the school withheld information that the child had been assaulted and left unconscious, almost certainly resulting in a concussion, I think the family either ends up winning this one or the school districts lawyer ends up recommending a settlement to avoid the publicity of a trial they likely lose.
