Falling for phone scam

I get several spam phone calls a day.
Have you or anyone you know actually fallen for one of these scams?
They must have some success at doing this or they wouldn’t continue to try it every day.
We were building a house last year so I had to answer the phone for every call. I’m not sure if that’s why I continue to get so many. I have a couple of blockers on my phone but they still get through. Do you have any tips on how to get off the list?

No but I have had them hang up on me when I started messing with them

If they get 5k numbers hoping 1 or 2 will bite. It might be more than that but you get my point. I don't answer the phone unless I know who the number is. Otherwise, if I don't recognize it and its important they will leave a message.

I have a family member that fell for the Google play gift card scam
Was several thousand dollars
This person is a lawyer, either Tulane or Loyola grad
Very smart but no common sense

I got one today that left a message. They are from the Blah blah Collection company and I NEED to call them, before I delete this message. I don't owe anybody anything.
If I was to call them back, do they need me to provide all of my personal info so they can look up my acct. number?
Suckers.

It’s usually the elderly. Not always, but usually.

Yes, I had an elderly aunt (95+) that received a call at 3am one night. The caller claimed to be her grandson who was away at college. He claimed he was in jail and needed $3000 for bail money. The scammer talked her through the process of transferring the money out of her account.

In my mother's final years, my dad had to unplug all the phones in the house because of this bullshite.

I got a voicemail today from a lady who sounded nice but obviously a solid target saying "I got a call from this number saying I could get $12,000 no questions asked, so please call me back at this number if, if that's the case."
Not sure if she fat fingered the number or if they spoofed mine, but I almost wanted to call her back and tell her don't fall for scams. But then I realized that she could be trying to scam me, so just decided she's safe enough having dialed the wrong number if she was really just a random lady.

I've been trying to draw them out now. Waste their time until they eventually hang up.

My parents got the call saying my nephew was in Paris and he needed money to get out of jail..
My mother almost fell for it. I asked if she called him to confirm if he was on vacation in Europe, and I also asked her if she had any idea he was even taking a trip to Paris...
She was almost convinced... Until I talked her out of it and made her call him... He was in BR at LSU...
What's scary, they used his correct name, and they knew my parents were his grandparents...
I got a call today on my hospital Spectralink phone saying my car warranty is up...

I’ve actually had a recording posing as the SS administration to verify my SS number using the keypad. I’ve often wondered if anyone actually falls for it.

In the computer business, yea several. One was the iTunes card scam, one gave up ALL of her account info, and one was a grandma.
I tell them all now days, don't answer. But if you do and the accent on the other end is Indian, hang up, no questions. If its important, they'll call back and leave a message.

A friend's wife let scammers remote into her computer. I have had people call me and say "I'm your computer guy you have virus" and I mean it wasn't real believable but people do fall for it, which is why they still call.

Years ago, woman called the local police department and said words to this effect: "Just want y'all to know people are out there trying to scam people. They called me soliciting money for the fire department's coloring book. I know the fire department doesn't do a coloring book fundraiser. That's the police department."
Guess what she learned?

My sister almost fell for an Amazon email scam last week. Good thing she called me about it, and I found the scam on the interwebs. She's highly educated, but sometimes doesn't think.
