American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines are among a growing list of air carriers that have grounded aircraft in the wake of a fake jet engine parts scandal that has rocked the aviation industry. Multiple have already replaced the uncertified parts and returned their planes to service, but close to 100 planes may still be affected worldwide.

Earlier this month, news broke that British aerospace parts supplier AOG Technics had forged certification documents for dozens of parts used in the CFM56 turbofan. This is the world's most widely used jet engine, powering workhorses like the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. The origin of the fake parts isn't yet known, but some of their destinations are: The engines of at least four airlines around the globe.

I'll keep flying Delta and their gay tranny planes as long as they keep avoiding these safety scandals.

I wonder if this is the source of the unusual number of engine fires seen on YouTube of late?

Why are the parts being called fake if it is just the certification? The parts themselves are probably fine

Everything dealing with a plane is logged. Every single minute of maintenance and parts are put into that plane's logbook down to the last bolt. Without the certification, there is no telling if they are real or where they originated from. Huge no-no.

If the parts are fine, why were they forging certification documents?

Exactly. The parts aren't fine. The people making them are cutting corners. Since one faulty part could bring down a plane, that's not great.

PPRuNe (Professional Pilots' Rumor Network) seems to think that AOG Technics were reselling discarded aircraft parts as new.

That’s not what you want to rely on when you’re cruising at 35,000 feet doing 600 MPH.

I wonder if counterfeit turbine parts are marked with those ridiculous Chinese branding names we see on rather generic Amazon products. Like Xoomycompresoryumyum or Aerplaynfuntimego for example.

The Chinese would execute everyone involved in this if it happened to them.
