And if you believe this is all just an excuse for a permanent government takeover
Certainly not. What it does set precedent for, however, is a gradual accumulation of powers - which has been happening for quite a while, anyway.
frog, pot, boiling water, etc.,
That isn't to say that I think this was manufactured whatsoever, but simply that a government will look for any excuse to expand its reach.

Again, what’s the alternative? What measures have you been taking to stick it to the man and ensure your freedom and rights aren’t trampled?

I think the point isn’t “do you think THIS is a cover for a totalitarian gov take over? Tin foil ha ha” rather it’s “do you think citizens would do anything at all to prevent a take over?”
Seems like most people would jump on board and report any neighbors that didn’t follow suit.

I hear what you're saying, but that's a little dramatic. We're not exactly North Korea.

Disorganized, rather. I think people can summon up guts when there is an organizational infrastructure to display guts. They sure as hell aren't going to just do it spontaneously of their own accord, because that's a pipe dream.
Possibly....here's hoping you're correct

And now, all world governments have brand new metrics on how controllable their populations are

I'm pretty sure I am. Unfortunately, no such coordinated efforts exist. So you're probably more correct than I am in reality.

OP is absolutely right. No matter how ridiculous it may be to quarantine healthy people, there isn't a damn thing we can do about it.

I hear what you’re saying but this Situation is a far cry from WWI Russia or pre WWII Germany.
The Russians were starving and being sent to die in a war for their Czar so any change in power seemed like a good idea.
Pre WWII Germany was in the midst of the Great Depression and were embarrassed as a nation, anyone who told them that they were a great people sounded great to them.
In both examples, the civilians welcomed a regime change.
This is a world Pandemic that will certainly pass as all past pandemics have passed. The restrictions are clearly temporary. There is no comparison for society’s reaction to the Covid-19 government response and a totalitarian government takeover.

I think the surveillance powers granted to the feds in response to the WoT are comparable.

2020 isn’t comparable to 1910-1945 though.
If you look at wealth inequality around the world, some would say a takeover has been underway for years. Maybe not a government take over, but a corporate takeover. IMHO government is just there to protect corporations because the corporations buy the politicians. The coming months will definitely prove me right or wrong. Hope I’m wrong

Liberals should NEVER be able to use “science” again. They clearly don’t understand models and are fricking terrified with the shitty predictions that those pandering modelers come up with.
I'm probably preaching to the choir, but think of this the next time they get onto global warming. That is a subject for which the data is even scantier than was the COVID-19 data they used to produce those terrifying graphs.
The COVID-19 graphs were wrong by about a factor of four AND ALWAYS WRONG IN THE SAME DIRECTION! So it has been with global warming. The key factors in COVID-19 are infection reproductivity and lethality. The key factor in global warming is carbon forcing.
Initial estimates of COVID-19 lethality were about 3.5 percent. They settled on 2%. The actual appears to be about 0.5%
Initial estimates (In the 1990's) of carbon forcing were 3 to 6 degrees C. Now they are 1.5 to 4.5 degrees C. This has radically moved out doomsday into the future.
The doomsday graphs of global warming in the 1990's turned out to be radically wrong AND ALWAYS IN THE SAME DIRECTION!

well, I've been going to work EVERY SINGLE frickING DAY (except weekends) as normal. I haven't quit doing anything I normally do. In short, I've chosen not to participate or abide by the rules or guidelines they've set forth. I've also been pretty active emailing and calling my legislators-federal and state- to ask them to move things along. And I've called out and challenged the social media chicken-littles who think we should be cowering in our homes waiting for Fauchi and Birks to tell us we can come out,
Sorry if you thought I was going to advocate an armed uprising, but we aren't at that point yet. But we can sure as hell let our lawmakers know if we disagree (or agree for that matter) with all of this.
And we certainly should be shouting down and refuting the people with whom we disagree. The idea that we can't do anything is silly.

So you are pretty much just being a Karen for the other side of the argument. Got it.
