I recently bought a used pickup and I decided to buy an extended warranty. I brought the truck in for an issue I was having and the dealership called and said the warranty company is denying the claim due to a preexisting problem. If I would have known about this problem I would have not bought the truck or I would have had the dealership fix the problem before I bought it. Has anyone had any luck overturning a denial claim? What are my options? The terms and conditions I can cancel the policy and get a full refund within 60 days and I do fall into the 60 day category

I would call back and threaten to cancel.

Most insurance places policy is to deny every claim the first time. A lot of people accept the screwing. Raise hell, continue to call, and ask to speak with someone higher up. If you bother them enough they will pay it to get you to leave them alone.

3rd party extended warranty coverage is a HUGE ripoff

From what I've heard, third party extended warranties always find a way to get out of paying for anything. If it's not a warranty through the factory or dealership, it's probably worthless.

Also, a pre existing, yet undisclosed issue would make me upset. I would raise hell at the dealership too...

speedometer stopped working. You think i would have bought it without a speedometer?

The company is assurant solution. I have had them in the past and never had a problem.

If the speedo quit working it is probably the instrument cluster or a speed sensor. It is HIGHLY unlikely that a pre-existing condition could exist in either. I would start raising hell.

Did the dealership offer you a CarFax report when you bought the car? If so, is the issue noted on the Car Fax report?

i have both the carfax and an oasis report and the truck never was in the shop other than oil changes and tire rotations.

I'd talk to the Service Manager first, if you don't get anywhere with him, go see the General Manager.

Car Fax is a crock, not all repair shops, body shops, or dealships report to them... Good luck relying on a report SALESMEN use to sell cars....

You are right, it is a crock. The selling Dealership can still be on the hook though (even if the defect is reported on the Car Fax).

Well, who the frick told them the issue was pre-existing? If they just made it up, push harder on the claim. They always try to deny coverage and see if you will go away quietly.

They HAVE to pay unless they have proof. Just like home warranties, they talk to the repair guys with questions and assemble their answers to fit their denial of the claim....that is, until escalated.

But for the record, you bought a used vehicle and within 60 days the speedometer quit working? Is the car 30 years old?

It sure sounds like "someone" tampered with it (maybe to show less mileage) and the tech at the dealership told that to the warranty company.

Everytime you purchase a vehicle that is out of warranty you sign a "We Owe" form, if that repair isn't listed on that form, they don't owe you squat. If they are a good dealership and the vehicle was purchased withing the last 30 days, they may pickup the bill or at lease convince the warranty company to cover it and take care of his deductable.

Regardless, it still sounds like he has a valid claim that they are trying to deny.

What does a We owe form have to do with an issue with the speedometer?
