Explain the incel “movement” to me like I’m an idiot

I was listening to Jordan Peterson on Joe Rogan and “enforced monogamy” came up. Peterson’s point was as a culture we should encourage momogamy because a) it’s good for children and b) there would be less “incels” (I’d heard this term, but didn’t know what it meant).
I didn’t know there was a huge subculture of males unable to find a mate, much less an online community where they openly discuss their lack of a sex life. I went to Reddit to investigate...and holy shite. This many disgruntled men is a problem.
Here’s a weird thread where an apparent adult incel is telling young subscribers to unsubscribe and get out while they can. Lots of talk of blue and red pills, Chads and Stacys and other lingo that I don’t understand.

My question is what is causing this? We’re not all beautiful or genetically gifted, but why can’t people find people in their league to have sex with? Are these men not able to get with women in their league or do they set their sights too high and then get angry because they can’t hook up and life’s not “fair”?
Is this a new phenomenon or something that has always existed but now the internet has allowed these people to connect and form a sad club?

from my understanding incels are dudes who aren't desirable to women and are very bitter about it. instead of trying to better themselves and become a man a woman wants to be with they whine and complain on 4chan and resent women and more attractive men.

I think dating apps are one of the main causes of this. Even fat chicks have every guy hitting on them now, whereas guys still have to look decent to attract a decent girl. That and the #metoo movement has some guys scared to even approach a girl for fear of being called a rapist.

Red pill and blue pill come from the Matrix movies, and the terms are used in many different contexts. Blue pill means you're content to live in an illusion and red pill means you live in reality.
Incel means involuntary celibate. They make the news sometimes when they do something like drive through a crowd. Typically they're average in terms of appearance and think they're entitled to bang OT 8s. (I've never seen a fat ugly slob be an incel. They know they're fat ugly slobs and they pick up OT 3s at closing time.)

It’s always been around, but like everything else, social media and the internet has given these guys an avenue to sit around and bitch about women not being into them. So it’s been magnified as a result.
The dating app culture probably doesn’t help either. But these guys are also supporting some pretty dangerous, McRapey Raperson rhetoric that they shouldn’t have to “work for” a woman to have sex with them. I’ve come across a couple in dating and one wasn’t a bad looking guy but definitely gave off that trillhog vibe.

That doesn’t make sense. If dating apps skew towards a female’s market, it’s because there are way more men signed up. The phenomenon you describe would only exist on the dating app, not in real life where the male/female population is 50/50.

If this is true, then autism is an epidemic. There’s also not really much to be done about it, because there’s no cure for that.

Women are constantly validated on social media, regardless of their real looks, by a thousand thirsties.
Therefore their ego value is overinflated in IRL. Where in the absence of this dating app/SM market they wouldn’t have near the number of men hitting on them and thus would value the attention they did get more.

The term may be new but I think there's always been guys who just didn't care about sex. Nowadays you have easy access to video games, movies, porn, and social interaction all online. Women aren't worth the hassle when you have everything you need so readily available.

There’s always been guys who thought chicks owed them sex no matter how shitty they were, no matter their attractiveness, no matter their socioeconomic standing, etc. Most women who are attractive enough to have actually dated a decent amount of their lives would tell you that.
These aren’t your typically socially awkward guys who just have trouble dating.
We’re just seeing them emboldened by having a social media platform and finding like minded individuals to share that platform with.

Maybe, but, validated online or not, they still need a warm body to lay next to.
