I can't seem to find a Chevy Suburban or Yukon XL built the way I'd like it (or need for a few of the options). Do they still do some dealing, or do they want full price for you chance to get everything custom. Even on the build it yourself site they seem to steer (haha) you towards similar vehicles on the lot. Custom ordering seems commonplace with German vehicles, but I've just never done it domestically. Any idea on wait times?

you'll soon realize you don't need a $2,000 sunroof or some of the retarded features they offer for a ridiculous price

You're going to have to shop dealers to see who will give you the best deal. It will take more effort, but you can still get a similar deal as an on the lot unit. I'll likely be ordering my next vehicle because I'm very particular about what I want. Wait times just depends on where you order in the cycle. Right ow, you can't order a 2015 anymore, so you'll be waiting a little longer to get a 2016. If you order in say March, you should likely have it by the end of May.

I ordered my F150 the way I wanted it

I negotiated the same as I would for one on the lot.

It took 4 weeks to the day when I received it

You will still be subject to the packages that are standard. I.e. You won't be able to get factory installed leather on an entry level trim, etc

Hard to imagine you can't find one somewhere with everything you want through one of the car sites. I traveled 500 miles for my Vette. Someone, somewhere, has what you want.

Yea, most of what I'm finding on the lot with the options I need have a bunch of stuff I don't want.

Oddly, I loathe built in Nav units, and this is usually a problem. Plus, I want 22"'s.

Nice. It looks like the Suburbans (and XL's) are made in Texas now, so travel time shouldn't' be much of an issue.

I was thinking the same thing, but didn't have much luck finding much last night. Maybe I'm just catching lots at a low inventory time as they are switching from 15's to 16's. I dont' mind traveling at all.

Then they just found one made the way you wanted it. I mean they make millions of those things, one will be in your desired combination.

What's that? I believe they went extinct in the early 80s.

It's the end of the year. Might as well wait for the new models to come out if that's your plan.

No, I was given a build number and able to track its progress

Also, it's completion date was one week before I took delivery

The 4 weeks was a surprise though, I was quoted 6-8 weeks

This could be problematic for you if, say, you want the top-level leather and trim (which only the SLT or LTZ have) because that only comes with those packages, which automatically include the Nav. There is definitely a difference between the leather/trim in the LT and the LTZ/SLT. I've had both as week-long rentals. In the LT you get a cheaper grade and the lower dash lacks stitched leather trim and has a crappy looking mega-fake wood. The overall look/feel of the LTZ is much better, but you can't get it without Nav.

For a ford or Lincoln it takes 6 to 8 weeks. It may be too late to order a 15 though.

I am like you...particular about what I want.

My brother was shopping for a ford. Could not find the one he wanted. Dealer told him to special order, and gave him a better deal. I would think that they would prefer special order as its not sitting on their lot costing them money, and maybe this helps with lowering transportation costs for their lot vehicles?
