Imagine how low insurance premiums could be if they wouldn't have to pay such an exorbitant amount.

True. But also imagine how low costs would be if we paid for services directly without a third party middleman.

Then you would have no one to lower the cost for you and you’d go bankrupt later in life with all your medical issues.

OK, I see what you are saying, but no insurance company or federal reimbursement is going to be giving them 10,000 for that 10,000 bill. They may be lucky to get 1000. Why a hospital charges so much when they know the reimbursment is only going to be a fraction of the charges, I don't know, especially today when even the non-insured can negotiate their charges down. Then you look at the reimbursements for lab and x rays from the federal gov and that revenue doesn't nearly cover the costs.

The wife had 2 doctors appointments, nothing special just some lab work. Just got the bill from January and it was two separate $600 bills.

It’s criminal what they charge
Nah. That’s the sticker price. Not the actual price the payer will pay. And you have to remember you are paying for the other three people that won’t pay. So, it’s only fair, b/c healthcare is a right. Pay up sucka. You're rich!
