What would define successful.

I have seen it happen.. especially when there are children involved.. I've seen divorced people remain tremendous friends.

Mine.

I got divorced 5 years ago. It was uncontested. We both agreed to everything. We put our daughter first and us second. I know this is very rare, but we were friends before we got married and are friends now. We get along extremely well. I will tell everyone with kids that it is much easier on parents and kids if you just decide to get along. We both have busy schedules and travel for work so we couldn't do it without being flexible. There is no "your weekend" or "my weekend". We sit down about once a month and hash out the schedule.

I will say this.... There was no infidelity. I've noticed it is much harder to have a smooth divorce when there has been cheating.

We get along fine because we have a daughter who is 14 and a son who is 19 that we still have to finish raising together. We both pay 50/50 for things the kids need without a lawyer drawing it up on paper.

I'm guessing the other parent is pressing for sonny to go to an expensive, private university or for your daughter to go to boarding school, take expensive equestrian lessons, etc.

Contemplate that and your 50/50 agreement.

Divorce is pure selfishness by at least one of the parties. Often both. It's the blight on our society and the root of many of our larger problems.

How dare an abused and battered wife selfishly get a divorce. People like her are ruining America
