I just did. Paid $69 for a groupon for chimney cleaning and inspection a month ago and called the company at the same time. He was booked solid until today so he finally came out this morning.

First he mocked me for not remembering the day (said he was 8 minutes away). I told him I scheduled it a month ago and that my wife was there but I was at work.

Then he gets to the house and gets pissed when my wife reminds him we used a groupon and wanted that service.

Then he proceeds to try to get another $100 to do the cleaning because the chimney 'hadn't been cleaned in a long time'.

I got on the phone with him and asked him for just the groupon deal..he gets really mad and says everyone else would charge $400 for this because my fireplace is open on both sides(wtf does that matter?) and its 'really dirty'.

I asked him for a refund of my groupon and he said 'thats not my business..call groupon and complain' and hands the phone back to my wife and walks out.

I've never had a shitty experience like this.

I called groupon and opened an incident with them because they typically only refund your money for 3 days after you accept the deal.

Has anyone else ever had a groupon scammer try to get more money out of you or deny the service you purchased?

The business owner will never refund it because Groupon takes 50% and then like 3% for CC fees so he only got like 47% of the $69 you paid. The guy needs to remember Groupon is great for building a customer base, its not a service to make a quick buck. The problem is he probably got so flooded he isn't making any money and doesn't have the capital to last long term, sucks he is stupid.

I've never purchased a service from Groupon because most seem like a bait and switch/hard upsell waiting to happen.

I paid for two super long, "heavy duty" Thunderbolt cables, and I could never order them. Eventually, it expired, and I never got them. They were only like 8 bucks each, but with the way my lady loses those things and takes mine without telling me, I'd love to have a few cheap ones lying around.

Don't ever use groupon for shite like this or movers. For those types of things, it's an invitation for these 2nd-rate companies to scam you and hang a shitload of charges on you.

Didn't this launch like two weeks ago?

Its pretty empty right now but I'm excited about its potential.

i found this out the hard way.

sad thing is, i've used it dozens of times in the past without problems for gutter cleaning, manicures (for the SO..ok for me) and a $20 chromecast last week.

this was a unique experience but a good lesson to research *WHO* is providing the service.

The owner turned down 6 billion from Google and it was less than 2 years from the day he started the company, probably the dumbest decision in the history of business.

I'd call the company and complain about the sweeper. They will likely apologize and send a new sweeper out.
