We're not dependent- today. What happens when oil stays depressed for an extended period? Domestic production declines and foreign dependence spikes. That's the exact end game that the Saudis are playing.

Edit: I employ welders, and if you think LA welders make $75/hr you're exponentially incorrect.

I don't think anybody will he crying because T-Boudreau can no longer buy that Ford Raptor just because he's flush with per diem..

But at the same time, there are lots of hardworking people (engineering, sales, etc) at smaller businesses in south LA that do primarily oilfield work. Those are the people and the companies to worry about

Or more like they don't like pollution and know we could do more with better energy that won't run out.

$10 oil barrels would kill this state's economy.

Like wayyyy poorer than Mississippi killed.

If the concensus was oil falling to $20/barrel, it would already be there

So LA state budget takes a hit too. Everyone is happy huh?

Vitter is campaigning on restructuring and fixing the budge messed left over from Jindal so hopefully he spends his eights years reforming how the state brings in and spends money.

With that being said $10 oil . I believe when I see it.

It would be great if you qualified those numbers in the title and said that was per barrel, and not per gallon.

Yea it wouldn't happen, but $30 is possible and would be very crippling for the state.

I wonder if Obama will come save us? We're probably looking at much more unemployment and profit loss as a whole than GM going under was.

Obama actually might deserve a noble peace prize if oil goes to $10-$20. Iran and Russia need close to ~$100/barrell to fund their government. If (big if) oil goes that low any economic benefit Iran would get from the lifting of the sanctions would quickly be spent on extra spending on hiding their nuke program from inspectors or be offset by decreased revenues for oil being so cheap. Russia also would no longer be able its military build up and supporting the "volunteers" in eastern Ukraine. LINK

I don't think you know your point. These aren't water wells, they require continual work over to flow. $20 per barrel and there's no money in it so they don't get worked over and production declines. Your statement about the US beating OPEC at their game shows that you have no idea what you're talking about.

I hope the price continues to crater. Cheaper gas for me is good for me. Oilfield trash be damned.
