Sorry but you have to have a death wish to bicycle on BR streets. This fool was biking at Foster and Florida. I hope the bus knocked some sense into him.

Which sucks because it'd be such an easy city to bike if the drivers weren't assholes to cyclists. I used to bike to work from Mid city to downtown and it was a fast, easy commute except when drivers would blow by honking the horn less than three feet only to turn right a second later.
Baton Rouge needs a PSA campaign for bicycle education - both for cyclists and drivers. I don't deny that some cyclists give a bad rap for the ones that ride properly.

Eh...My old bus driver used to drink gin and smoke on the bus. She had the only manual transmission school bus I'd ever seen, and she never used the clutch. I used to think that all buses were supposed to make that grinding noise when they changed gears...

Apparently the guy was walking down Florida St., saw the school bus coming, jumped on one of those white bikes leaning against a creosote pole, and saw his chance. The pedestrian jumnped on the bike, and rode out into traffic, and the bus hit the bike, flowers and all.
Probably a con, but the police can't question the pedestrian/biker yet. He's surrounded by Gordon McKernan, and four legal aids, three representatives from Morris Bart, Dudley and DeBosier, Dr. Plant and two nurses, Simien and Simien, and he just got hit in the head by a football thrown by Spencer Calahan who said he was just trying to help.
It will be a while before we get the scoop.
