Assistant principal Robert Marks now arrested in murder in death of Lyntell Washington

An assistant principal has been booked with first-degree murder and first-degree feticide Friday in the killing of a pregnant woman whose decomposed body was found in a ditch near Rosedale earlier this week.
Robert Marks, 39, had told police that he and the woman, Lyntell Washington, were having an affair. Marks and Washington worked at the same Baton Rouge school.
Police said Friday a motive could be that Marks did not want anyone to know that Washington was having his child. Although Marks hasn’t said much to police other than he knew Washington, Baton Rouge police Cpl. L’Jean McKneely Jr., said police believe that Washington wanted him to accept responsibility for the child she was carrying but he wanted to keep it in the dark.
“He didn’t want anyone to know,” McKneely said Friday.
In a text message from Washington to Marks, the woman asks if he is trying to avoid his responsibility for “our unborn child,” according to a police affidavit. Police said this shows Marks was aware that Washington was pregnant.

Police reported that cellphone records were used to place both Marks and Washington near Ramah at about 9:45 p.m. on the night the woman went missing, and then at Newcastle Avenue 15 minutes later — which is near where the toddler was found roaming near her mother’s abandoned car.
quote:
The search for Washington began after officers found her 3-year-old daugher wandering alone in a parking lot near the abandoned car on June 9. Blood was found in the vehicle and the young girl told police that “Mr. Robbie” hurt his mother and she was now “sleeping.”
Marks, who is not cooperating with police in the ongoing investigation, was initially booked into Parish Prison last week on counts of aggravated kidnapping and desertion of the child. Marks has no prior arrests.
SIAP
He was arrested earlier for kidnapping...now charged with murder. I thought the OT would like to be made aware of an Assistant Principle being booked for murder and walked to a police cruiser in orange. Both the accused and the victim worked at a school in Scotlandville.

From Associated Press:
Just shocking enough....but the 3 year old had to see it.

Marks is an assistant principal at Brookstown Magnet Honors Academy, where Washington worked as an instructional specialist. East Baton Rouge Parish school system spokeswoman Adonica Pelichet Duggan said earlier this week that Marks was placed on administrative leave after his arrest.
A co-worker told investigators that Washington was pregnant with Marks' child and had threatened to tell Marks' wife about their relationship, according to a police report. The report says Marks knew Washington was five months pregnant.
quote:
Washington's daughter told detectives that "Mr. Robbie" had hurt her mother, the report said. The child also said she heard a bang and saw her mom "shaking."
"She further stated that Mr. Robbie was trying to clean the blood and that her mother was 'in the lake,'" the report said.

Marks told investigators he last saw Washington at a Wal-Mart in Baker about 8 or 8:30 p.m. June 8, the report said. However, police said records for cellphones belonging to Marks and Washington showed the phones traveled to Iberville Parish later that night, arriving there about 9:45 p.m. and leaving approximately 15 minutes later before returning to the area in Baton Rouge where Washington's car was found.

Yeah when I first heard the story I knew it was a matter of time. The little girl said something like "my mommie is sleeping and mr robbie hurt her".. Since she was pregnant for a married man named Robert, who she works with, I think this one connected itself.

1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1....
Sounds distinctly Floridian in nature.

Whoa! According to Google maps, the distance between Ramah and Newcastle Ave is 30 miles, via I-10 or 39 miles via Rosedale Rd. That averages to 120mph.

You know the current students and parents are watching this story.
I wonder if any former students of the school will recognize him in EBR prison.

These are the type of things that makes The Advocate such an unbelievably shitty paper.
The AP story I posted is better. He was placed in the Ramah area for 15 minutes. It didn't take 15 minutes to return to Baton Rouge.

WTF is wrong with people. How the hell could someone do that at all much less with a child there. Heartbreaking, it really is.
