The Lotus Headquarters will be the new administration building for the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging. The 25,000 square foot building will not only house the council's offices but its commercial kitchen, where dinners are prepared for the Meals on Wheels and feeding programs. The building at 965 N. 18th St. is set to open before the end of the year.
This is a slightly controversial subject for the OT, given this groups history of misuse of tax dollars and failure to accomplish anything of substance related their stated mission. This accounts for about $65 million of their funding.

Not joking or being hyperbolic in the least. The COA tax, not the crime and other bullshite, was the last straw for me in EBR. I moved because of it and my house (the last vestige of my presence and taxes in EBR) will be sold soon. I will have to change my comments on my TD name.
I used to love Baton Rouge.

Don't blame me, I didn't vote for that trash tax.

The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging is mandated by the Older Americans Act (OAA), to respond to the needs of Americans aged 60 and over in the local community with the goal of keeping seniors living independently in their own homes. Senior Centers are an excellent way to break social isolation by engaging seniors with their community, in a safe and enriching environment.
& they help people write their wills

They are supposed to.
EBR COA officials have a history of writing themselves into some wills.

I thought they were going to name the building “Witch Hunt”.

When does this tax come up for renewal?

You forgot the last part. THAT is the worst thing about them. They don't even try to hide it.

Honest question; what does a Council on Aging do? Tell people to not die?
Posted on 10/13/21 at 12:31 pm to MallardDeer
It was passed in November 2016, 10 year tax. So it would be October/November 2026.

What’s that? $2,600.00 per square foot? Looks like a steal to me.

We tried to bid on some of the work in this project and were told we couldn’t because we weren’t minority owned.

What a waste of tax payers dollars.

Did they take competitive bids from contractors or did they hire their buddy?

They don't even need an office space in Baton Rouge. They can all "work" remotely because they don't do $hit at that particular Council on Aging but scheme to get more money for doing nothing.
