I think eastern philosiphies are fascinating. A lot of interesting ideas that aren't really present in western philosophy or if they are, presented in a different light.

So, figured I'd start off with one of the big ones, Buddhism.

Many see Buddhism as a religion but many practicioners do not and see it only as a philosophy.

The under-pinnings of Buddhism are that wants and desires are the cause of pain in life and that through removal of those desires, you will live content. Think what causes you grief in life. That grief arises because you want the world to be a certain way that isn't. Once you come to terms and your desire to change the world ceases, you are left with no grief.

Your dog died and you feel sad. You desire your dog to still be alive. What will that get you? Nothing. If you focus on your grief, you will just wallow in it.

Now most people can't go through their lives with that mindset, especially in thenUS where our society is build on fullfiling our needs

Siddartha sat under the tree until he reached enlightenment. The eight fold path he says. So let's talk about the teachings of a guy who apparently smoked some good stuff and then sat down to enjoy his trip under the tree.

I'm pretty sure that is how Coleridge write "Kublah Khan".

You are right, Buddhism is not a religion. It is a spirituality. This world actually has many Buddhist Christians, Jews, and some Buddhist Hindus. it's a spiritual pathway not to heaven or hell, but for inner peace

Well, it can be. It depends on who is practicing what sect. There are sects that do worship many gods and stuff.

As for Buddhist Hindus. Buddhism arose from Hinduism.

A lot of ideas shared.
