For those of you that play. What method do you recommend?
Any good CD's or is lessons the way to go?

I would absolutely love to learn how to play this song one day

I learned myself and with friends, but there are much more efficient methods now.

There are always online instructionals, as many as you want. But lessons is the way to go IMO. I could kick myself for not just taking lessons from the beginning. You'll be better in a year than I was in five, maybe more.

Google the shark tank guitar tool. I can't remember the name of it but it works.

Amos is right...take some lessons. Just a couple times a week. You'll realize when you've gotten what you need out of it.

Lessons are the way to go with any instrument, that way you can have someone there to critique the style and adapt lessons specifically for you.

I wouldn't say I "play" but I think I have gotten further, faster with Rocksmith on my PS3.

It still takes time.

Most say 15 minutes a day is way better than a 2 hour marathon once a week.

Justinguitar has a webiste with some good online lessons for free and sells books/dvds to go along with the online lessons.

Go buy "Progressive Rhythm Guitar" and start there.

Learn all you can about the instrument and chords and notes and melodies and develop your own style before you start playing tabs.

Learning tabs before you know how to play will majorly inhibit your abilities in my opinion.

The game Rocksmith is actually really good. I picked it up to shake off some rust and found the lessons pretty efficient.

Firstly, forget all about that macho shite.

Secondly, do you smoke pot? Reason I'm asking is because I'm pretty sure I heard one Mr. Edward Van Halen say when he was like ages 12-19, pretty much all he did is sit in his room, smoke marijuana joint cigarettes, and play guitar.

In a more serious answer.........I'm not nearly as good as I should be considering the length of time I've been playing. What little I do know was learned as follows:

1. Learn the play what are known as "the open" chords.
2. Then, understand that by barring the guitar with your index finger, and making the same open chords above the bar with other fingers, you'll be learning to play.

I will say this.....I got Infinitely better - to the level of non-suck mind you - be doing two things....

1. Hang out w/folks that know how to play. They'll teach you tricks.
2. Play with your stereo. It'll do a cpl of the things, namely, let you know when you're playing out of tune, and - don't laugh - feel the groove

Both of the above will build confidence.

Spend every weekend night locked in a room with eight-ball, a guitar and cassette player with your favoright songs. After 3 or 4 years you will have skills. Well at least that what I heard worked.

The price of lessons is going to vary. I never took them so I don't know, but if I could go back to when I started playing, i would definitely take them this time around
