I understand the tiny kids...something like 6 yrs old should be the cut off. NOT 18! 18yr olds heading to college.
I would imagine that a couple of those people that answered 16-18 were providing a trolling response.

It's a poorly worded question by the way. It's asking "at what age should athletes receive participation trophies" when it seems that you actually want to know the age limit for receiving a trophy. That's not what was being asked though.

No kid over 8 should get a trophy for just showing up.

Have you experienced how hard it can be to get a 4 year old to go to baseball practice and games and act civilized? Just getting through the season is an accomplishment for them

Parents should be the ones getting the trophies

I can appreciate a medallion or some type of certificate maybe for the hard work and dedication required during a season. Definitely not a trophy. When my kids were little I would "let" them win. When they reached 7 or 8, they would tell me not let them win.

What about 16 to 18 year old special Olympic participants?

For kids up until about 8 or 9, if you are trying to increase the likelihood of them playing ball in the future and enjoyment of playing, trophies are helpful. It's one of the simplest tenants of behavioral psychology.

OP is mentally handicapped, so I would assume he would agree.

Having nothing to do with this thread, but my answer would certainly be yes for that.
