A Florida man spent 90 days in jail after police officers who stopped him for driving without headlights said white powder found in his car was cocaine.
But Karlos Cashe walked out of jail last week after lab results determined the powder in the handyman's car was actually drywall.
quote:
Cashe tells WFTV he repeatedly told officers in Oviedo the substance was drywall. But after running a check they found he was on probation for marijuana and cocaine charges in 2015. Cashe says a K-9 alerted on his vehicle and an officer's field test was positive for cocaine.
Court records show he was denied bond because he was accused of violating probation.
It took nearly three months for lab test results, which were negative for cocaine.

I spent 90 hours in the hospital for making that same mistake.

Pretty sure they have commands for the dog to give a false alert

I assume that the K-9 and the field tests will be replaced with something in the range of accurate?

Somewhere, Jeff Sessions smiled.

Did he have little baggies of drywall powder or did they just think he had cocaine all over the floor of his car?

Lesson learned. Don't ride around with drywall powder.

I always wondered what the accuracy of those tests was. Every time I see those field tests on COPS or LivePD, they look inconclusive most of the time. But, it looks like it's simply a screening tool if they're using a lab for confirmation.

Apparently the field test and the dogs will find exactly what the officers expect to find depending on what comes up when they run your ID.
Pretty convenient isn't it?

If it turns blue, it's cocaine. Everything turns it blue.

Saw one on live pd last week that turned pink and brown. Apparently it was coke and heroin. Not sure I buy that.

He's lucky it was that quick.

They are BS. There I believe 50 different substances that will give a false positive including sugar and caffeine.

They need to be charged. This is downright disgusting. Abusing your power is not what you took an oath for. Now they need jail time for this shite.

Damn. I knew they give false positive results. But fricking chocolate? Tylenol?
