People with drones and/or cameras can be insufferable with what they post.

I don't get what the benefit to society is. Flying drones in dangerous places like this or over populated areas is sort of like shining high-powered lasers at airplanes. No good can come of it, and serious harm can result. All it does is indulge the assholes who are operating the things.

I doubt that man on the wind turbine has a job now.

Considering he's a Benedictine Monk I suspect he still has a job.

No wind that day?

perhaps his job is working on them... and he knew that one would be stopped for maintenance so he took the opportunity to get some rays

as the Mythbusters proved on a recent episode... a high quality (specialty made) drone flown into someone's neck can cut a jugular

Run of the mill drones flown in inappopriate places are extremely dangerous. I found this after I made my first post, on my daily visit to Ars.

Hobby drone flies within 50ft of LAPD helicopter, derails a suspect search

quote:

"It is very hazardous," LAPD pilot Sgt. Jorge Gonzalez told ABC7. "It could kill everybody onboard the aircraft and anybody you hit on the ground. These aircrafts are just under 5,000 pounds and they can carry up to 143 gallons of jet fuel."
...
Inevitably as drones become more accessible for everyday individuals, incidents of them encountering authorities (intentional or not) will continue to spring up. Within the last year alone, amateur drones have had close run-ins with Lufthansa planes trying to land, tanker helicopters in California fighting fires, and even the park directly across from the White House.

I think they should be restricted as model airplanes are restricted. Let them be the domain of hobbyists who fly them in designated areas, like the park near Burbank/Highland. I sure as hell don't want some idiot flying his toy anywhere near me.

The 333 from the faa requires the operator to be a faa pilot certificate holder.

It's been a problem near forest fires this summer. They have to shut down air operations when they spot one in the area. They've also been seen near airports. Seems like a simple solution would be to block the control frequencies in sensitive areas like they do with cell phones. That wouldn't stop a truly autonomous drone, but it would eliminate Billy Bob trying to get some footage he can upload to youtube.

OTOH, they're not complete nuisances. A guy in Shreveport got some amazing views of the Red River floods using a drone.

Why not? They pay people to put those on their private land, and a man's gotta get some alone time somehow.

I would say that a cgi of a guy sunbathing on the nacelle of a wind turbine is completely legal and harmless, though.

Rightfully so. The drone pilot should have left him alone as it was clear he was aggravating the guy as time went on.

Probably fricked up his chill spot forever now.

That is fake as all getout. It looks like a final project for a digital animation class of some sort.... Like part of the grade requires the student to cast shadows from a certain number of directions and maintain texture integrity.

If it were real - There would be a moving vehicle on the ground somewhere at least once during that 90 seconds.
