Moisture won't even freeze up on roads unless it's below 27 degrees or so, or has been below freezing for 48 hours+.

Lulz, you fools freaking out with the weather. I drove to Columbus, OH from Lexington in 5 inches of snow hitting the ground this past Tuesday. The semi's and myself traveling no faster then 35 in a single file on I75....3 hour trip took over 5.

Suck it up and drive really slow....and give yourself plenty of distance to stop.

I know a few portions of the interestate in Ascension parish are closed right now.

Really? Where? I haven't seen any info regarding closures in Ascension. My wife is trying to get to Houma this afternoon from Prairieville and is wondering about closures.

ETA: Nevermind, just found the info on the LSP website: LINK. Looks like I-10 @ Airline is closed...probably due to the elevated roadways at the junction.

True for surface roads, but there are a good number of overpasses and elevated roadways in the Baton Rouge area that have been closed this morning for ice.

- I-10 in Ascension Parish is Closed
- We recommend using Airline/ US 61 for all necessary travel through Ascension Parish.
- Sunshine Bridge is NOW CLOSED (Updated at 8:25am. Closed per the St. James Sheriff's Office)

You, apparently, do not understand the mindset of Louisiana drivers. Any weather other than 72 degrees, bright sunny, with no clouds, causes all out panic in the state. Particularly in BR.

Cold weather = all schools shut down
Rain = all traffic lights stop working
Wind = cars drive 20 mph
Heat = cars on the side of the road

Any combination of the above and it is a perfect storm of stupidity and frickheadery.

best route - they usually put sand on that stretch that has a bridge just before/after Norco.

Just took airline all the way here. No problem at all. However, all flights out of msy are cancelled due to an iced over runway. Big problem.
