Dumb question - why is this needed

Think about all the time that is wasted driving. I'd much rather do anything else while I'm going to work/road trip than the actual driving.

Eventually, will replace Uber ( no DWI?), also, great for older farts who shouldn't drive (eyes, mild confusion)

The first car to hit the obstacle will report to Waize and all the rest will know. If the sensors missed it.

Wonder how long it will take for an Amazon drone to link up with your drivers less car and bring you a hot breakfast in your commute?

It seriously amazes me that this is a thing. I don't get how they can go through things like construction zones or cops directing traffic and know what to do

Easy.

My truck already has adapatable cruise control. It sends a beam out from my front bumper that recognizes anything slowing down or stopped in front of me and adjusts the speed accordingly. I drove from BR to Nashville last year and never touched the pedals once I got on the interstate.

Self driving vehicles are going to be a hell of lot safer than current vehicles.

Do none of you have a modern navigation system? You constantly get alerts of road obstructions, alternate routes, etc.

From what I'm reading, the cars in that specific article do not have pedals or a steering wheel. So to that i say, HELL NO!

Give me the ability to disable and take full control when i want it and enable automode when i don't, then i'm in.

Eventually you won't be able to get insurance for an everyday manual vehicle.

Somewhere around the start to middle of 2018, we'll hear about the a sudden surge in the number of highway related deaths.

Tesla will review the data and make adjustments in the programming. There is nothing you can do to stop human incompetence.

Also, the way that construction zone was setup was pretty shitty.

Honestly....that lane shift was horribly marked.

Yep. The liability issues will be interesting, but somebody will pay.

Driverless cars depend on lane markings don't they? How do you think a driverless car is going to handle roads maintained the way Baton Rouge's roads are? Or worse...New Orleans?

Even the smooth roads have worn out markings, weird and random pavement cuts, poorly marked side lines, and often feature at least some standing water in rain storms.

I think we are more than a decade away from being able to do this properly.
