Is this like a rich dude thing?

If you have to ask, you're an OT poor.

I don't own any, and I'm torn on the style. I don't think it's inherently douchey, but the people I have known to wear them regularly have been douches. And not all of them were rich.

It's a pity there's people on here that have to worry about such a common thing as money.
Makes you wonder what they did in life to get where they are.

The fact that you don't know tells me everything.
In reality it's more of a stockbroker/banker thing.

There are only a few people I know who wear them and they are Jewish partners in a law firm I used to work at. One is extremely wealthy, pulling in well into the 7 figures. One is upper middle class, probably bringing in half a million or so. The very wealthy one is an absolute piece of shite. The upper middle class guy has some douche to him, but it's an endearing douchiness and he's ultimately a great guy.
So... I guess it depends on what you mean by "rich."

Nicely complements a solid red or black shirt.

French cuff brah.
When I'm an executive in my career or own my own business I'll wear them. People need to know I'm a prick when I enter a room.
I can then usurp their expectations. Basically the bar is then low.

So, collars and cuffs are typically the first to wear out on a shirt. Because it was difficult to source fabric from the original bolt or because the fabric on the original bolt would not be faded like the body of the shirt, it became a practice to replace the cuffs and the collar of the shirt with white cloth. I have replaced cuffs and collars on some of my favorite shirts that needed replacement. Never bought a contrast shirt for kicks.
